Besides topical courses in anthropology and religious studies, I enjoy teaching courses on methods, fieldwork, and writing. I have supervised a wide range of doctoral projects, reaching geographically across Lebanon, Dubai, Egypt, Kyrgyzstan, Iran, and Canada. I have worked with students interested in the Islamic Revival, the Arab Spring, Muslim-Christian relations, secularism, Muslim reform movements, Islamic organizations, Muslim parenting, migration and refugees, queer activism, Bedouin life-worlds, the politics of public prayer, and human-animal relations.
I especially enjoy working with students who are open to having fieldwork reshape their worldview and who are committed to developing the craft of ethnographic writing.
Below are some books published by former students and postdoctoral fellows I had the pleasure of working with over the years.
